An accomplished professional in both the legal and administrative fields, Mr. Kolawole has built a career that has spanned about 24 years, beginning in 1991 when he served as a Youth Corps member at the Customs, Immigration & Prisons Service Board.

 

Born on the 9th of June 1968, Mr. Samuel Kolawole attended Ansar-Ud-een Primary School III, Itire, Surulere, Lagos State from 1974 to 1980, and attended Ijeshatedo Grammar School, Okota, Isolo, Lagos State between 1980 and 1985.

 

Mr. Kolawole is a product of the Ogun State University (now Olabisi Onabanjo University), Ago Iwoye, Ogun State, where he got his Bachelor of Law degree in 1990, graduating as the best student in Commercial Law, and the best student in Law of Banking. Subsequently, he was called to bar in 1991 and worked as a Counsel with Austin Mamedu & Co. from 1992-1993, as a Legal Officer with Allied Bank of Nigeria between 1993 and 1998, as a Liquidation Officer with Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation from 1998-2000, and as Company Secretary/Legal Adviser with University Press Plc from 2001-2005. In March 2005, he became the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of University Press Plc, thus making a switch from law to administration.

 

Since 2005 when he has served as MD/CEO at University Press Plc, Mr. Kolawole has had landmark achievements and impacted greatly on the organisation.

 

Apart from his degree in Law, Mr. Kolawole holds a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from University of Liverpool, as well as professional certificates from the Council of Legal Education (1991), the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (London) (1996), National Institute of Marketing of Nigeria (2011), and Nigeria Institute of Management (2015). Currently, Mr. Samuel Kolawole is studying for a doctorate in Business Administration at the University of Liverpool.


He has also attended various professional courses and trainings both within and outside Nigeria. Some of them are: Understanding Digital Rights in a Digital Selling World, Frankfurter Buchmesse, Frankfurt (October 2010); Strategic Publishing Management – Publishing Training Institute, London (2008); Business to Business Marketing Strategy Course – Harvard Business School (2008); and Total Quality Management Course held at Allied Bank Training School, Lagos.


While working full time in various capacities, Mr. Kolawole has at the same time been committed to various professional bodies and institutes, serving as Council Member, Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators of Nigeria (ICSAN); Council Member, Manufacturers’ Association of Nigeria (West Zone); Chairman, African Publishers Network (APNET); Immediate past Chairman, Nigeria Book Fair Trust; and Immediate past President, Nigerian Publishers Association. His membership of professional bodies includes:


  • Fellow, Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators of Nigeria (FCIS)

  • Fellow, National Institute of Marketing of Nigeria (FNIMN)

  • Member, Institute of Directors (M.IoD)

  • Honorary Fellow, Science Teachers Association of Nigeria (FSTAN)

  • Honorary Fellow, Mathematical Association of Nigeria (FMAN)

  • Associate Member, Nigerian Institute of Management

  • Associate, Institute of Chartered Economists of Nigeria (AICEN)

  • Member, Nigerian Bar Association.

For his commitment to industry and his organisational acumen, Mr. Samuel Kolawole earned the 2015 Businessday Top 25 CEOs in Nigeria award.


As a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators of Nigeria, Mr. Kolawole has impacted on the institute in many ways, among which are:


  • Being personally responsible for relocating the Ibadan Chapter Office of the Institute to its new, befitting secretariat.

  • Consistently securing sponsorship for the Institute’s activities.

  • As a member of the Public Lecture Committee of the Institute, he made personal financial contributions to the organisation of the Annual Public Lecture in 2014 and 2015.

  • Serving on the Building Committee of ICSAN.

  • Securing the interest of University Press Plc in publishing the Institute’s study texts.

     

    Mr. Samuel Kolawole has an impressive collection of publications and research papers. They include:

     

    • “Assessing the Influence of Corporate Branding and Product Branding on Customers’ Patronage: A Case Study in the Nigerian Publishing Industry” – A dissertation submitted to the University of Liverpool, UK, in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the award of MBA degree, 2011.
      “Profitable Textbook Publishing and What Needs to be Understood” – Paper delivered at the Association for the Development of Education in Africa (ADEA) Conference on book development in Africa held in Nairobi, Kenya between 3rd and 5th October 2011.

    • “Tools for Growing Your Business” – Paper presented at the Maximum Impact Seminar Series (M.I.S.S.) organised by the Latter House Church, Ibadan on 9th September 2011.

    • “Legal Liabilities in Publishing” – Being text of a lecture delivered at the 2003 Regional Training of the Trainers’ Workshop of the African Publishers Network (APNET) held between 1st and 4th July 2003.

    • “Legal Aspects of Selling” – Being text of a lecture delivered at the 2002 Sales Representation/Marketing Course III of the Nigerian Publishers Association held from 26th-30th August 2002.

    • “Legal Aspects of Exportation of Books” – Being text of a lecture delivered at the 2002 Sales Representation/Marketing Course III of the Nigerian Publishers Association held from 26th-30th August 2002.

    Samuel Kolawole got married to Olapeju Abiodun Kolawole in 1998.  They have three children: Olaoluwatomi, Olaoluwatoni and Olaoluwatofe.
